FUNletter: Book recommendations and all the fun things!
Funletter? Yes, because I'm packing it with things I find fun, and hope you will too. As an autistic, what I find fun is drastically different. AND THAT'S OK. I'm here to reclaim fun.
1. My friend wrote a book!
Adele Dumont and I met at our artist residency in Finland. She’s a fellow autistic, and I was thrilled to buy and read her book, The Pulling, about her experience of living with trichotillamania. There’s such wonderful psychological depth - I highly recommend it!
2. I’ve been painting with clay!
I took a wild clay class this past month where we went and dug up New Jersey clay.
While everyone used their clay to make pots, I’ve been using mine to paint in my journal!
3. My expressive arts therapy studio continues to evolve as I add new things here and there.
See if you can find where I started to paint and didn’t finish.
4. I wrote two autism essays:
5. Now that I’m back working with my autistic therapy clients, I’m revisiting one of my favorite autism books, The Adult Autism Assessment Handbook.
5. I’m scanning 100+ paintings I made in Finland.
Here they are hanging in my studio space in Finland.
And here’s what one looks like scanned.
7. I wrote three personal essays this week:
8. I’m enjoying the book The Joy of Discontent.
Don't worry, there’s no toxic positivity. It’s all about how we can listen to our discontent and move toward joy.
