FUNletter: Art experimenting, client openings, and more!
Funletter? Yes, because I'm packing this the things I find fun, and hope you will too. As an autistic, what I find fun is drastically different. AND THAT'S OK. I'm here to reclaim fun.
1. I’m seeing therapy clients again and loving it. I have a few more openings. If you’re interested, I have two options:
30 minute therapy consultation: If you’d like to see if I’m a good fit for you
90 minute therapy meeting: If you’re ready to jump in and get going!
2. It is officially plant season!!! I went to the local nursery yesterday and had so much fun looking at plants. I stuffed my car full.
3. I’ve signed the lease for an office space that I’ll transform into my new art therapy studio in Cranbury, NJ. I’m very excited and I’ll make sure to take some pictures for you all to see next week.
4. I attended a workshop on how to make your own watercolors. I’ve been experimenting with mixes and trying them out in my journal.
You can also see one of my experiments that didn’t go too well. I used too much honey and the pages stuck together:
5. Have you ever thought of teaching an art workshop? The Arts Council of Princeton is currently accepting class proposals (and they’re paid).
6. I’m listening to the advice everyone is giving me, and I’m going the traditional publishing route for my upcoming book The Joys of Being Autistic.
So what does that mean? I’m writing a query that I’ll submit to book agents. Once I sign with a book agent, that individual will then submit my book to publishing houses. I’ve decided to go this route so that my book can reach a wider audience. It will be a longer process to get my book to print, but I think it is especially important in the US political climate to have such a book widely available.
7. Starting in May, I’ll be releasing new essays on Medium (where I write about autism and other topics I care about).
While I have a whole batch of fresh essays, I’d love to know if there is a topic or question you’d like me to write about. Just send me an email with your idea.
8. This week is the last week I’m sharing free chapters from my books:
Being an Autistic Writer: The latest chapter is Allowing the Magic of Time in Your Writing.
Therapy Private Practice: The latest chapter is How Insurance Companies Squeeze Therapists
What is Autism?: The latest chapter is How Autism Leads to Creativity
